Real
Madrid have announced the signing of Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer after the
French captain departed Paris Saint-Germain.
With 256 goals in 308 games, the 25-year-old is PSG's all-time top scorer. He
has agreed to a five-year contract at the Bernabeu that will pay him €15
million (£12.8 million) a year after taxes.
Real
Madrid will pay the signing-on bonus in installments throughout the course of
his contract, giving him a little over £85 million in total.
Just
two days after Carlo Ancelotti's team won their 15th Champions League title to
complete the double, the 2018 World Cup winner joins the team.
The European winners released a
succinct statement confirming Mbappe's signing that says, "Real Madrid CF
and Kylian Mbappe have reached an agreement whereby he will be a Real Madrid
player for the next five seasons."
After
that, Mbappe shared images of himself as a child wearing a Real Madrid Jersey
on social media to show off his happiness about the transfer.
He said: "A dream
come true. So happy and proud to join the club of my dreams, Real Madrid.
Mbappe has long been admired by the
Spanish powerhouses, who made an attempt to sign him in 2022, but the forward
signed to a new two-year contract at the Parc des Princes.
Only six years after costing the
French team £166 million to transfer from Monaco, Mbappe was free to leave PSG
for nothing this summer when he declined to sign a one-year contract extension.
Since Mbappe announced his departure
last month, PSG has been able to save at least €220 million (£187.5 million) in
gross costs.
Where will Mbappe fit in the Real Madrid team?
Semra Hunter, a Spanish football
journalist, states: "In the end, it will depend on Carlo Ancelotti's
tactical goals."
"Yes, there is a pecking order of
sorts but of course you are going to go with the best players that you have available."Assuming
Ancelotti sticks with a 4-4-2 formation for the upcoming season, Jude
Bellingham will start at the top of the midfield diamond, though Bellingham is
truly free to do whatever he wants on the field. This implies that Vinicius and
Mbappe, as they have done this season, may launch a two-pronged attack
together.
"Vinicius has truly claimed the left side as his own. It's the finest
situation for him. Rodrygo is more adaptable tactically; he can play as a No.
10, on the right, or left.
Thus, the
alternatives are numerous. He might play Vinicius and Rodrygo on the wings,
Mbappe in the middle, and a 4-3-3 formation. However, since they are so
well-stocked in that department, he would have to give up a midfielder. That
doesn't appear to occur very frequently.
What is the
opening and closing date of the summer transfer window?
Starting on Friday, June 14, 2024, the
day Euro 2024 begins, the Premier League's summer transfer market will formally
open.
August 30 at 11 p.m. UK time is when the window closes.
To connect with the other major
leagues in Europe, the Premier League has introduced Deadline Day. Talks with
the leagues in England, Germany, Italy, Spain, and France led to the setting of
the closing dates.
Mbappe's significance to the French
national team and the nation has increased along with his fame.
When a transfer to Real Madrid
appeared all but certain in June 2022, President Emmanuel Macron stepped in to
convince him to remain at PSG.
With Vinicius Jr., a forward from
Brazil, and Jude Bellingham, a midfielder for England, Mbappe will create a
potent attacking trio at Real Madrid, who also reclaimed the La Liga title from
bitter rivals Barcelona this season.
